Implementation of municipal activities to provide transportation of pupils, and support activities connected with it

On 12 September 2009, the State Regional Development Agency in cooperation with the Ministry of Regional Development and Local Government began to implement the project „Implementation of municipal activities to provide transportation of pupils, and support activities connected with it”.

The aim of the project is to improve the transportation system for the pupils in the remote areas and the least developed regions of Latvia so as to provide transportation for the pupils between their homes and the educational establishments.

It is planned to purchase 110 busses for 59 county municipalities of Latvia. The municipalities were chosen based on the research carried out by the Ministry about the needs of the pupils for transportation. 

The total costs of the project amount to 20 885 355 Swiss CHF or approximately 9.7 million LVL, int.al., financing of the Swiss Federal Council – 7.44 million LVL, Latvian state financing – 1.31 million LVL, and municipal co-financing for the purchase of the buses – 0.96 million LVL.

The SRDA has carried out procurement for experts who have prepared documents for the procurement for the purchase of the buses.  The procurement will be completed by February 2010.
