BSR InnoReg – Strengthening Innovation Governance in Baltic Non-metropolitan Regions through Transnational Cooperation
Duration of the project: 01.2009-07.2011
Project is approved within the framework of the Baltic Sea Region Program 2007.-2013. On October 24, 2008 the decision of The Monitoring Committee on the project approval was carried out.
The goal of the project:
• To improve the innovation governance and to promote the development of the innovation supportive environment in the Baltic Sea Region, outside metropolitan regions by analyzing the opportunities of the regions and preparing a common vision of the region’s development.
Predictable results of the project:
- Improved understanding about the main factors influencing the creation of a competitive regional innovation system, taking into account long term development opportunities in the global environment;
- Strengthened role of the decision makers and their involvement in the improvement of the competitiveness of the Baltic Sea Region;
- Increased capacity of the partner-institutions for a better utilization of the innovation potential of the regions, int. al. advancing students’ creativity and innovation support services;
- Improved regional and international cooperation networks in partner-regions.
Latvia’s gain in the project:
Activities planned within the framework of the project are directed at raising awareness of local and regional level municipalities, SRDA and other institutions operating in the field of the regional development, on the system of the regional innovation and opportunities of the international cooperation in the Baltic Sea Region.
Participation of the SRDA in the project will foster involvement of the Latvian representatives in the implementation of Baltic Sea Region’s strategies. In the framework of the project 5 five planning regions will be involved in the international cooperation networks. The SRDA will also perform research activities connected with the former work in the regional development.
Other project partners from Latvia are: the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia and the Technological Centre of Latvia.
The project activities will be directed at the area outside Riga.
Project funding:
Total funding of the project is 2 393 063 euro.
Total funding of the SRDA as a partner is 97 885 euro.
